Diabetes Literacy

Diabetes literacy is the first base for diabetes care and diabetes self-management.

Individuals must learn self-management skills and make lifestyle changes to effectively manage diabetes and avoid or delay the complications associated with diabetes. Therefore, providing patients with literacy-appropriate diabetes education materials may be an effective strategy for imparting skills necessary for diabetes self-management.

At the same time, policy makers must rely on diabetes literacy and statistics for long-term, lifestyle changing interventions.
