Both societies are delighted to welcome both its members and friends to the vibrant city Brisbane where pediatrics and endocrinology is at the heart of the city’s contemporary healthcare developments. In late 2014, the city will see the merge of two of its children’s hospitals, the Royal Children’s and the Mater, into a brand new building, the Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital. The new hospital will cater for the needs of the children and young people of the state Queensland, of which Brisbane is the capital city, with the newly merged Department of Endocrinology and Diabetes including a multi-disciplinary team looking after the needs of 800 children and young people with diabetes. Diabetes is the new department’s focus in terms of research, which will provide topical and scientific discussions throughout the conference. The scientific program is reflected by the motto of the conference, “Leaping over Barriers,” and is underscored by plenary sessions and symposia that highlight how biological, technological, psychological and logistic barriers can be overcome to improve outcomes of care for children and adolescents with diabetes, as well as new research findings in and practical aspects of pediatric endocrinology.
